Mets Star Prospect Shows Off Immense Talent
USA TODAY Sports

With one month left in the regular season, it's all about seeing who out of the New York Mets' young players can become impact players at the major league level.

On Tuesday, four of their coveted rookies were all in the lineup together and showed that they could be the future of the franchise after leading the Mets to a victory over their division rival Washington Nationals.

Getting reps for the young players should position the franchise into having a successful future as they begin to rebuild around their strong minor league pipeline.

New York's star prospect showed that he will be in the mix for years after he put on a show during a Double-A game on Wednesday.

MLB's No. 38 overall prospect Luisangel Acuna was acquired by the Mets after they traded Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers at the deadline this season. He was one of the best prospects who was dealt in 2023 and immediately became New York's top player in their farm system.

In 29 games with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, he hadn't popped as one of the most coveted young players in the minor leagues. That changed in game 30 when Acuna blasted two home runs, including one that went 426 feet.

The shortstop finished the night going 3-for-5 with those two home runs and a stolen base.

Acuna was having the best minor league season of his career before being traded out of the Rangers' organization. Since coming to the Mets' pipeline, he has a slash line of .258/.343/.325 instead of the .315/.377/.453 he recorded before the trade.

Getting adjusted to a new environment takes some time, but it seems like the star prospect is starting to settle in. He has a batting average of .327 in his last 12 games and has three multi-hit games through five of their September outings.

The top prospect is certainly one to monitor regarding the impact he can make when he eventually gets called up to the major league roster.
