Red Sox designate one-time All-Star OF Jackie Bradley Jr. for assignment

Jackie Bradley Jr.'s 2022 reunion tour with the Boston Red Sox has not gone as planned. Now, the 2016 All-Star may be on his way out Beantown again.

A first-round pick during the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft, "JBJ" spent the first eight years of his big league career in Boston from 2013 to 2020, securing his lone All-Star nod, winning a Gold Glove award in 2018 and earning a World Series ring that year as well. During the Red Sox's run to the 2018 World Series crown, Bradley Jr. captured ALCS MVP honors.

After he spent the 2021 campaign with the Milwaukee Brewers, Bradley Jr. was reacquired by Boston in a four-player trade in December last year. Milwaukee also sent two minor-leaguers to the Red Sox and received power-hitting outfielder Hunter Renfroe in return.

The 32-year-old Bradley Jr. has gained a reputation as one of the most reliable and impressive outfielders in the game since joining the league, but has had his struggles at the dish. The University of South Carolina product has slashed an anemic .210/.257/.321 with only three home runs and 29 RBIs this season over 271 at-bats.

Boston acquired Tommy Pham from the Cincinnati Reds earlier this week to presumably take Bradley Jr.'s spot in the starting group of outfielders.
