Olivier Giroud’s three-year association with Milan is nearing its end, with the French veteran set to join MLS outfit Los Angeles FC. It’s now a near-certainty that Luka Jovic will not remain at San Siro beyond the summer despite occasional flashes of brilliance.

One of the club’s priorities for the summer is replacing Giroud. Among a number of European strikers linked with Milan, one name tickles Rossoneri fans’ imagination the most. It’s not Bologna’s rising star Joshua Zirkzee but RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko’s rise to stardom in the Bundesliga has not gone unnoticed. Milan would have to piece together a significant offer to see off stiff competition. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United are just some of Europe’s top clubs keen to lure the 20-year-old away from Leipzig.

If you look at Sesko’s numbers, you’ll think – Why should Milan even consider spending a small fortune to sign him? His figures are average at best. In 31 league appearances this season, Sesko has racked up 14 goals and two assists.

He’s not even in the top five in the Bundesliga. So what’s the catch?

Sesko has had the misfortune of sharing the dressing room with Lois Openda and Xavi Simons. Both have been above him in the pecking order, restricting him to only 17 league starts in 2023/24.

However, when Sesko starts, Sesko scores. The Slovenia international was on the scoresheet as Leipzig drew 2-2 at Eintracht Frankfurt on the final Bundesliga weekend. Since late January, he has been involved in a goal in all 13 league starts, tallying 11 goals and two assists.

There’s no better recommendation for a striker. But are Milan chiefs watching?
